The Amgen Tour of California came to Santa Cruz this past week and it was exciting. My husband is a part time cyclist (along with lots of part time sports – our home looks like I live in Outdoor World) I digress….to see the race on TV nightly, and on the local news, along with seeing locals riding around town on bikes showing their support was really fun. Being a local I sometimes forget what a special place Santa Cruz is and how fortunate I am to live and work in this community.
I got into the spirit of the early summer we had – weeks ago – sunny and warm – do you remember? I went out and bought a new bike. The intent is to ride to work and home daily and leave my car at work. I am zipping all over town and need a car in the property management business but since walking to and from work didn’t pan out like I had envisioned I thought a bike would do. The ride is 5 minutes – what a commute along the coast and to get some little exercise on top if it. Doing my little rides and going up hill with my heart racing I have a whole new appreciation for the “professionals.”
While watching the coverage of the event last night from Visalia to Bakersfield the commentator gave the stat of the front cyclist his heart rate was 160 – OMG – my heart rates get to that walking up hill! I guess I had better get on my bike and start riding…
Summer is coming so I would encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the lovely place we live in and get some exercise to boot.
